The expansion of private business in the Western Balkans began in the late eighties and early nineties of the 20th century, and with it came the need to better secure private property. In the same period, a large number of craft shops, agencies and companies started to deal with security work. In that period, at the very beginning, knowledge in the field of security was very scarce.
Unlike tangible or concrete goods whose value constantly decreases with use, knowledge grows when it is used and loses value when it is not used. The mutual influence of people through different roles and connections creates intangible values - knowledge. Knowledge management represents the process of creating, coordinating and storing, transferring and applying - reusing knowledge to increase the success of the organization. Knowledge management in security operations can be considered a new business model, which is based on all the knowledge of an organization from that field of business, and includes knowledge creation, codification and its exchange. Modern business, in the field of security, is conducted exclusively by knowledge, so it can be said that the currency of such business is "intellectual capital".
