Abstract

Independent investigations of accidents that happen in all modes or means of transport represent a strategic shift in the field of institutional capacity in order to improve the traffic safety. Having analyzed the experience of developed countries of the European Union, that have formed the body for the implementation of independent inves- tigations, we have proposed here a model for the establishment and functioning of the body for the implementation of in-depth independent investigation of accidents and incidents in all aspects of transportation in the Republic of Serbia. This paper also provides details about the position of the Body in relation to other State Bodies and entities that carry out investigative actions that are within their jurisdiction. We believe that the body model of this study could be useful for all countries in the region, which have not yet started to conduct independent investigations in traffic.
